Rick has been fly fishing for over thirty five years and started guiding in
1999.  As the business grew Rick decided to start Sky Blue Outfitters.
Rick prides himself as being one of the best "Dry Fly" fishing guide you
will find in Pennsylvania.  It does not matter if you are a novice or
experienced fly fisherman,  Rick offers a guided trip that will increase
your understanding and skill level.  If you want to learn how to "match the
hatch", understand the feeding pattern, identifying the hatch, type of
rise, where and how to cast, you have found the right guide. Rick will also
teach you nymphing and streamer fishing.  His simple "back to basic"
approach is great for the beginner and the experienced fly fisherman who
has forgot what got him to where he is today. Rick feels the industry has
gotten to complicated with all the gear and techniques developed just to
make a sale.

Nick Raftas has been fly fishing for over 25 years and began guiding
in 2011.  Nick is familiar with most of Pennsylvania's more popular
rivers as well as those lesser known rivers ranging from eastern to
central, Pennsylvania.  The majority of Nick's time is spent guiding on
the Lehigh River for trout and the Delaware and Susquehanna Rivers
for smallmouth bass.  Nick is one of the few guides that has been
issued a permit to run float trips through the Lehigh Gorge which
offers a truly western experience where you can fly fish over wild
trout in a very rugged and isolated setting.

Nick has contributed to Field and Stream Magazine for hunting large
fall brown trout as well as the "Hook Shots" video series where he
was the featured guide for smallmouth bass fishing on the
Susquehanna River as well as a separate video on carp fishing.  Nick
has also contributed to other popular fly fishing publications and

Whether it be floating large rivers for trout and smallmouth bass,
fishing for wild brook trout on small mountain streams, casting at
finicky brown trout on spring creeks, stalking carp in lowland farm
creeks or throwing big flies at pike and musky that will crawl up your
arm to eat a fly Nick goes above and beyond to provide a unique
experience. These unique experiences do not go without notice as
Nick's clientele is booking year after year.

Taylor, a fisherman his whole life, became a fly fishing addict
during his days at State College. That is where he
honed his
fishing skills for wild trout on Spring, Penns, Big Fishing and
Little Juniata. Experienced in all facets of fly fishing, he focuses
much of his time studying the modern techniques of nymph fishing.

He also pursues Muskie, Smallmouth, Carp and Stripers on the fly.
Growing up in the Oley Valley he has fished many of the Class A
creeks in Berks County. As you can see by the photo he like to
hunt the large browns that can be found
in small streams. Taylor
is an accomplished fly tier of nymphs, dries and streamers, using
his own patterns to fool selective trout that are found in
Pennsylvania. He will be available for guiding and teaching in
SEPA and Central PA, along with leading Destination Trips in PA

What clients are saying...

"My son and I went on the Sky Blue March Brown trip this year (2016) with Rick and Taylor as our guides.  Their
individual styles of guiding and instruction complement one another allowing us to learn and apply many varied and
successful fly fishing techniques.

Rick and Taylor both have a broad and diverse knowledge of the various streams we fished, the "hot spots", the
hatches, and the ecology. They put all this information together to provide you with an enjoyable fishing experience.
Their enthusiasm is contagious and their dedication to your success is their priority.

We fished hard and caught many trout.  The highlight for me was watching my son catch his largest trout ever; a
gorgeous colorful feisty brown.  We had the father-and-son experience of a lifetime!  Sal and Lowell
